For me personally its to make me feel and look better.
Maybe in a few years time i may compete..who knows.
What are your reasons?
Josh.:)
i think for most people, especially people who have been going a while, deep down they are unhappy with the way they look. even if there is nothing wrong with their appearance. i personally like the challenge and nearly all of my friends have vbeen made through the gym so the social aspect is very appealing also.

I think for most people it is a confidence and self-esteem thing but as well as that, for me it is about being a good role model for my kids and being a Dad they can be proud of - thinking about that really motivates me!

Improve my appearance
Being stronger + Healthier
Girls love it
People asking me for advice
Inspiring others!
And i definately agree with tjlee - being a good role model when i have my own kids.

Hey guys.
I train because i love to train. It gives me a feeling of acomplishment. it gives me time on my own to relax. like most gym goers im not happy with the way i look, but nobody ever is. i think it all boiles down to the way i feel after. i love to feel pumped.
i have two kids. the positive example i set will make a big difference to their food and excersize knowledge.
my dad was a massive guy and worked the door, people respected him. i think i just want to be a little bit like him.

Well I was gonna be a fireman and I wanted to make a good impression in the physical tests but that never came to light and I got the bug! I'm gonna be working on an oil refinery soon so it'll be practicle to be stronger. Plus you get the added bonus of looking good and being more confidence. Bring on the summer.

Ok im just putting this out there....maybe a few of you will have had similar experiences.
My goals are to look better and pack a bit of muscle on. I don't hate what I look like now, but feel it can be improved that bit more. Im not interested in looking better to attract girls etc as I already have an amazing girlfriend. This seems to be where my problems start.
She gawps at the guys in my Mens Health mags and does the "he's nice" routine but when I say oh cool I wanna get ripped she hates the idea of it and says im fine the way i am. Does she do this because she's not happy witht the way she looks, or feels that im trying to impress other girls etc, or just worried that im not gunna be spending as much time with her if im going to the gym a lot etc.
How do I make her understand that Im doing this for myself, yet still keep her as number one? Im probably over complicating things and just being silly, but potentially it could upset my routine or relationship if she really doesn't like it.
Sorry if its a bit OT but any experiences would be great.
Cheers

Umm well you could invite her down to the gym with you, and make her feel more included. She will soon get hooked on it! I used to go to the gym all the time with my ex boyfriend, we trained seperately but then afterwards we would go hang out in the pool and it was nice.
She could just be trying to boost your confidence by saying you look fine the way you are.. it's probably something i would say in fact but it's just a little complimnent!

Anyway, i go to the gym to get/stay in shape. It really boosts my confidence and make me feel so much better once i have been. Some girls despise the gym and say they get bored, well then they have no imagination in the gym because it is only as fun as you make it.

like most the really love the challenge, plus it makes me feel better about myself, and makes me think one day i might be able to be on the front cover of a fitness mag.

i think she says ooh they're nice because she wants you to look like that (otherwise sh wouldnt say it, shed just think it). she then says she likes you the way you are as she may feel bad about making you feel insecure and as though you arent as good as these guys. i may be wrong but thats just my view. you should want to look however you feel comfortable but i dont think she'd complain if you looked like the guys in menshealth :)

Yeah...airbrushing, photoshopping and good lighting goes a long way!

LOL Ever the cynic!
I started going to the gym to beat stress, getting physically exhausted was the only way I could switch off. I got hooked and carried on for the thrill of it. I enjoy seeing differences in my physique depending on what routines and diet I was on at the time.
I entered this challenge to prove to myself that at 36 years old I could still increase my size and leanness. I've been making gains over the past few weeks just by taking up this challenge by being more focused and determined not to get too far behind the guys (and ladies!) that are a lot younger than me!
I think it boils down to self esteem and self confidence. (Maybe a bit of vanity in there too!! LOL) :)

It keeps me off the streets & out of the pub...! ;)
Just kidding, being in good shape, strong, lean etc is great for confidence.
It's also useful when you're on the streets and in the pub!
